Does anyone have any tips for transporting heirloom tomatoes. I've got 3 different varieties and all of them aren't very hardy.

Sun, September 13, 2009 - 8:10 AMToms don't transplant well at all. You must dig a large root ball, so as not to disturb the the root mass. Two people are best for pickin it up. Be sure to sharpen your shovel. with file or grinder.

Sun, September 13, 2009 - 10:03 AMYeah, that's a problem. Gotta remember there were valid reasons that growers moved away from those breeds and left them heirlooms. Remove the stems, of course, and pick them just a little before they ripen, and pack them in newspaper are the things i remember doing.
