Thanks Margi! I've always tried to get brussels sprouts in early, I've actually never seeded them later than mid may, so I was worried. I live just about fifteen minutes away from territorial seeds too. I know I should have gotten them there, but the allure of a cheep pack I had just picked up was too tempting. I figured "I'll just sow them thick, that way I'm bound to get some." Nope. I had really poor germination with some Delicata squash this year too, but nothing like the trouble with the brussels sprouts. I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and drop a biunidle at territorial every year from now on. I've never had trouble with their seed.

This is a problem everyone I have talked to has .... bad seed ! I thought I had done something wrong but No it has to do with the seed >\! I guess we all will have to start the plants then transplant to have a full row !

You're in luck, Linsey! You can grow brussels sprouts in western oregon for fall or winter harvest. You can start them from seed right now through the end of July. If you don't get around to it till August, you can plant transplants in the first part of August.

The Territorial Seed Company has a winter gardening catalogue. You can find out there (online) which varieties to grow at the times mentioned above.

I haven't grown brussel sprouts (not enough room) but I have frequently planted other brassicas in June, July and August for fall and winter harvest. It looks like brussel sprouts need 3-4 months to harvest so it seems well within reason to try a new package of seeds.

Brussels Sprouts are one of my favorite vegetables, I go through pounds and pounds of them every fall, and have grown them before successfully. This year, I had a large bed entirely devoted to brussel sprouts, in order to feed my cravings. I seeded it about a month ago, and, it has become abundantly clear that not a single seed has germinated. I'm pretty pissed, because I started almost everything else in my garden from seed, and everything else come up fine and thrived, including some red cabbages, so I know that it was the seeds, not the garden.

i was wondering if any of you know if it's not to late to try seeding brussel sprouts again. I know they take a long time, but I think I still have enough time left in the season here. I live in the pacific northwest, so they should be able to really grow well into fall. the only starts I've seen are already lanky and bolting, so no hope there. Should I by some better seeds and try again, or give up, plant some more carrots, and turn to the local farmer's market?
