those are excellent resources for arizona, however, all desert regions are not alike. . .soil characteristics, temperature range, etc vary from location to location. . .even in arizona, what works in prescott doesn't necessarily work in yuma.

i don't know anything about what support services are available in el paso, but texas and new mexico would be where i would look first. .

as a note: el paso is closer to las cruces than any sizeable city in texas. .

I may not be from the southwest but I am involved in a master gadener program and here are some really good places to start.

start here... http://ag.arizona.edu/extension/

then go here..... http://cals.arizona.edu/extension/mastergardener/

If you have the time becoming a master gardener is one of the most worthwhile things you could possibly ever get involved in.

Search all the states mastergardener programs information on line in your area there is an incredible amount of information available for free.

If you love plants half as much as I do it will be a wonderful experience.

Im moving to el paso very shortly and am wondering if anyone can give me advice on what types of plants grow well in that climate. Irrigation wont be a problem, as we have a very nice well on the property and intend to build greenhouses. Anything from your vast experience will be of great help.
