Can you plant these 2 next to one another or do they cross-pollinate?
If I really shouldn't plant these close, how far apart do they need to be?
I'm planting close and going vertical with them but I'm wondering if I need to create somewhere else for one to live this summer.
Thanks~

Re: cantaloupes and watermelons
Sat, May 10, 2008 - 8:38 AMcross-pollination only matters if you are saving seeds for next year's crop...but melons are notoriously bad anyways for growing true to the "parent" fruit if you harvest the seeds for the following crop

Sat, May 17, 2008 - 5:32 PMWatermelons and cantaloupes do not cross pollinate, so don't worry about planting them next to each other. If you plan on saving seeds, just make sure they are open pollinated or heirloom varieties.
