I put mine in a dark, cool closet and even put a little piece of tape on each one with the date I picked it so I'd know which squash to start with. I should harvest them as soon as they pass the fingernail test, eh? That is, I assume that lettin' 'em get bigger negatively impacts their quality. And yes, you want to cure them out of direct sunlight for a month or so.
